Marshalling

August 4th, 2010

Join Us. Marshalling duties with Owen MC can be very rewarding for the motor sport enthusiast. A means of getting closer to the action and more often. At times over the years, member’s interest in this part of the sport has fluctuated, but Owen has always easily been able to fully man its own events, and supply manpower for other clubs. The interest at the moment is probably the best that it has ever been in the clubs history.

As a reward for marshalling we have a marshalling championships. Details can be dowloaded here.

Many different types of event are covered by our enthusiastic marshalling teams, Stage Rallies – always a favourite, Sprint, PCT, Autotest, just to mention the usuals. Not only in the UK either, our rally marshals even go to Belgium.

As most will know, the MSA in their wisdom, introduced a marshals licence scheme, don’t let this put you off if you wish to join the gang, they are easily obtainable. Application forms can be obtained from the club or direct from the MSA. Available in three grades 1 to 3 relating to your experience, start off with grade 3 and work your way up, it could take you quite a while to attain level one, but lots of action to attend whilst getting there.

If you have never marshalled on a motor sport event but would like to, first you really should become a club member, this will get you access to the events that the teams will cover during the year. Apply for a MSA licence (not compulsory) but advisable, they are free, on event training will be given by our experienced members or at official training days laid on by the MSA should you like to attend.

The MSA training days are very informative, as some of us found out on the last one. A fire training day, cars fully ablaze had to be dealt with, nerve wracking for the first time but an invaluable experience. We hope this situation never happens at an event we attend, but it could, we now know the correct way to deal with a situation as serious as this and believe me there is a wrong way. A training day as this will give you the confidence to deal properly with a given emergency, not run away from it !!

Join the team for some fun Motor Sport packed days out, by the way it helps if you can cook !!!!!!! were always hungry, sense of humour is also very compulsory.

For further information – come along to a club night, Wednesday evenings at Aldridge Social Club, High St. Aldridge, 9.00pm till late, or, contact Ruth Langford.

In 2006 we ran the Weston Park Stage of The Tour Britannia and were voted best run stage and friendliest !!

This section is through the courtyard at Weston Park.

Weston Park is also the venue for our AGBO stage rally, in March.
